Myths about fostering

We hear many misconceptions about fostering. Here are some of the most common and the truth behind them:

  • “I cannot foster because I rent my home” – You can foster whether you rent or own your home. What matters is that your home is safe and you have a spare bedroom.
  • “You need to be in a couple to foster” – Not true, people who are single can foster.
  • “I have never raised children, so I cannot foster” – Parenting experience can help, but it is not essential. We provide all the training and support you need throughout your fostering journey.
  • “I work full-time so I cannot foster” – Many foster carers balance part-time work and fostering. It depends on your availability and the type of fostering you are considering. We will talk with you about what is realistic.
