Foster in Manchester with confidence

Manchester is a city full of culture and community, but it is also a city where children and young people need safe, supportive homes. Every week, new foster carers are needed to step forward and provide stability for children who cannot live with their birth families.

At Next Stage for Fostering, we work closely with individuals and families who are ready to make a difference. Whether you are just exploring the idea or feel ready to apply, we offer expert advice, training, a strong network of foster carers across Greater Manchester, and round-the-clock support to guide you every step of the way.

As an Ofsted Outstanding agency, our local team is known for its family feel, responsive support, and dedication to helping children thrive. We are not just looking for foster carers, we are looking for people who want to be part of a strong local fostering community, making real change.

What types of foster care are needed in Manchester?

Children and young people in Manchester come into care for many different reasons and the support they need can vary. That is why we look for foster carers who are open to different types of fostering, such as:

  • Short-term care – providing a safe, stable home while longer-term plans are made. This could be for a few nights, weeks or months.
  • Long-term fostering – offering care until a child reaches adulthood, helping them grow up with stability and belonging.
  • Respite care – stepping in for a short period to give children, parents or foster carers valuable breaks while keeping relationships strong.
  • Specialist roles – fostering children with more complex needs who need extra understanding and patience.

In a diverse city like Manchester, we need foster carers from all walks of life who reflect the communities’ children are part of. Whatever your background, there is a type of fostering that could fit your lifestyle, skills and family.

Real foster care stories from Greater Manchester
